KATHUA, SEPT 13: Police arrested a shopkeeper and seized 45 illicit liquor bottles during a checking operation at Mahanpur, officials said.
The action was carried out by a police team led by the SHO Police Station Basohli, assisted by the Incharge Police Check Post Mahanpur, during patrolling in the area.
The accused was identified as Mohd Hafeez, son of Abdul Majid, a resident of Ward Number 3, near GHS Chunera, Mahanpur, Basohli.
During checking of his shop, police recovered 45 illicit liquor bottles, each containing 180 ml.
Following the recovery, FIR Number 49/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act was registered at Police Station Basohli and further investigation was initiated.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Operations Upper Kathua and SDPO Basohli as part of the ongoing crackdown on the illegal trade and transportation of liquor.
Police said strict action would continue against persons found involved in the illicit liquor trade.
