Sedow School clinches Girls Badminton Tournament organised by Shopian Police

SHOPIAN, OCT 7: Promoting sports, discipline and constructive engagement among young girls, Jammu and Kashmir Police concluded a Girls Badminton Tournament at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sedow, under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026–27, with the host Sedow school emerging as the overall winner.

The tournament brought together teams from different schools, providing the participating students an opportunity to compete in a structured sporting environment while showcasing their badminton skills, determination and team spirit. The matches witnessed spirited competition, with players demonstrating commendable discipline, confidence and sportsmanship throughout the event.

The tournament culminated in an engaging final between the school teams of Heerpora and Sedow. Both sides displayed strong technical skills and competitive temperament, but the Sedow team maintained the edge to secure victory and lift the tournament title.

The concluding ceremony was presided over by SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, in the presence of DySP Headquarters Shopian, SHO Police Station Heerpora and Chief Education Officer Shopian. The SSP presented cash prizes and certificates to the winning team and appreciated the participating players for their enthusiasm, discipline and sporting spirit. Mementos were also presented to participating teams and players in recognition of their contribution to the successful conduct of the tournament.

Addressing the gathering, the police leadership appreciated the students for using sport as a platform for personal growth, teamwork and healthy competition. The participants were encouraged to continue pursuing sports and other productive activities while upholding discipline, perseverance and the spirit of fair play.

The initiative forms part of the broader youth-oriented outreach under the Civic Action Programme, through which Police seeks to create meaningful platforms for young people beyond routine policing. Such programmes are aimed at strengthening police-public relations, nurturing sporting talent and encouraging youth to channel their energy towards positive and constructive pursuits.

Police said sustained engagement with young people through sports and community-oriented activities remains an important component of its efforts to promote a healthy, disciplined and drug-free generation, while contributing to the larger objective of building a safer and more harmonious society.
