SHOPIAN, OCT 21: District Police Shopian observed Police Commemoration Day on Wednesday with a solemn ceremonial parade and wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyrs’ Monument at District Police Lines (DPL), Shopian, paying homage to the brave personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The commemoration brought together senior officers of the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), officers and officials of District Police Shopian, and family members of police martyrs to honour the courage, dedication and supreme sacrifices of those who served the nation with unwavering commitment.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, led the tributes, joined by senior security force officers and other personnel. The ceremonial proceedings reflected the collective resolve of the security establishment to preserve the memory of fallen heroes and recognise their invaluable contribution to the nation’s security and public safety.

During the wreath-laying ceremony, floral tributes were offered at the Martyrs’ Monument as a mark of respect for personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice while discharging their duties. The observance served as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by security personnel and their steadfast commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining peace.

The participation of Army and CRPF officers underscored the spirit of solidarity among security forces, while the presence of the martyrs’ families lent a deeply emotional dimension to the ceremony. Their attendance reflected the enduring bond between the department and the families who continue to carry the legacy of their loved ones.

In a gesture of appreciation and solidarity, SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary distributed gifts among the Next of Kin (NoKs) of police martyrs. The initiative acknowledged the sacrifices made by the families of personnel who lost their lives in the service of the nation.

The gesture highlighted the importance of recognising the contribution of bereaved families and maintaining a sense of connection and support with those who have endured the loss of their loved ones in the line of duty.

Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honour police personnel who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties. The day commemorates the sacrifice of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.

The observance at DPL Shopian reaffirmed the importance of remembering the fallen heroes and preserving their legacy of courage, discipline and selfless service. Their sacrifices remain a lasting reminder of the commitment required to safeguard the nation and serve society.
