SHOPIAN, OCT 28: Shopian Police organised a series of activities across the district to honour police martyrs, highlight their supreme sacrifices and promote patriotism, national integration and a spirit of public service among students and the younger generation as part of the ongoing observance of Police Commemoration Day, Police Flag Day and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas-2026.

As part of the initiatives, a debate competition on the theme “Role of Police and Martyrs in Nation Building” was organised at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Shopian. The programme was presided over by DySP Headquarters Shopian, accompanied by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Shopian.

Students participated enthusiastically in the competition, expressing their views on the vital role of the police in maintaining law and order, safeguarding public safety, preserving peace and strengthening national unity and integrity. Their deliberations also highlighted the sacrifices made by police personnel while discharging their duties under challenging circumstances.

The participants paid rich tributes to police martyrs, acknowledging their courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to the nation. Prizes were distributed among the participants in recognition of their performances, encouraging them to take an active interest in educational, cultural and patriotic activities.

In a separate initiative, police officers visited schools to honour four J&K Police martyrs and keep their legacy alive among the younger generation. DySP Police Component Keller, accompanied by the SHO of Police Station Keller and the In-charge of Police Post Berthipora, visited Government High School Mashwara and Primary School Mastpora to pay tribute to the fallen personnel.

The martyrs remembered during the visits were Gh. Mohd, son of Gh. Mohiddin, resident of Mashwara; Mohd Yousaf Palout, son of Mir Baaz Palout, resident of Kralcheck; Mohd Maqbool Shah, son of Abdullah Shah, resident of Mastpora; and Gousia Jan, daughter of Ali Mohd Khanday, resident of Batmurran.

During the visits, the officers highlighted the bravery, dedication and supreme sacrifices of the four personnel in the line of duty. Students, school staff and members of the local community were sensitised about their invaluable contribution to the nation and encouraged to uphold the ideals of patriotism, unity, discipline and selfless service.

The school-based activities provided an opportunity to connect the younger generation with the sacrifices of police personnel and emphasise the importance of national responsibility, respect for those who serve the country and the preservation of communal harmony.

The initiatives also reflected the importance of community outreach in strengthening police-public relations and fostering mutual trust. By engaging directly with students and local communities, the district police sought to reinforce the message that national unity, public service and social responsibility are collective commitments.

Shopian Police reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the legacy of police martyrs, promoting national integration and strengthening its bond with the public while upholding the principles of dedication, integrity and service to the nation.
