SRINAGAR, OCT 2: The SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina has taken disciplinary action against five MBBS students and interns following their reported involvement in a ragging incident, suspending them from academic and internship activities for one week and imposing a ₹10,000 fine on each.
The action was ordered by the Principal, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, on the recommendation of the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee, after the incident was found to constitute a violation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.
Those facing disciplinary action have been identified as Shubham Verma and Sunil Verma of Batch 2023, Shahdev of Batch 2024, and interns Rupal Suntal and Lavish Sharma of Batch 2021.
According to the institutional order, the five students/interns have been barred from attending classes and participating in other academic activities for one week, while the interns have also been kept away from their internship-related duties during the suspension period.
In addition to the suspension, each of the five has been directed to deposit a ₹10,000 penalty in the prescribed CD-10 account. The concerned students/interns have been instructed to submit the payment receipt to the Academic Section within five days from the date of issuance of the order.
The college has also directed the parents or guardians of all five students/interns to accompany them and appear before the Anti-Ragging Committee, where further disciplinary proceedings will be undertaken in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The institution has made it clear that non-compliance with the directions could invite further disciplinary action under the UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations as well as the rules governing the medical college.
In the case of the two interns, the order further directs the concerned authorities to withhold their stipend for the period of suspension, in accordance with the applicable rules.
The disciplinary action comes amid the strict regulatory framework governing medical institutions, where ragging is treated as a serious misconduct and institutions are required to initiate action against students found violating prescribed anti-ragging norms.
The SKIMS Bemina order underscores the institution’s stated approach of enforcing disciplinary provisions against ragging and ensuring compliance with the prescribed anti-ragging mechanism.
