SOPORE, OCT 4: Tightening the noose around illegal mining and the unlawful transportation of mineral resources, J&K Police in Sopore has intensified enforcement operations across vulnerable areas, resulting in the seizure of five vehicles allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
The action was carried out during intensified checking and surveillance in the jurisdictions of Police Post Putkha and Police Station Bomai, where police teams intercepted and seized the vehicles suspected to have been engaged in activities in violation of the prescribed mining regulations.
Following the seizures, two separate FIRs have been registered at Police Station Tarzoo and Police Station Bomai, respectively. Police said further legal proceedings have been initiated in accordance with law, with the concerned vehicles taken into custody for necessary investigation and verification.
The crackdown comes as part of the police enforcement drive aimed at curbing the unauthorised extraction and movement of minerals, which can cause significant damage to riverbeds, agricultural land, water channels and the local environment. Authorities have been maintaining close surveillance over areas vulnerable to illegal mining and transportation.
J&K Police reiterated that strict action will continue against individuals and vehicle operators found facilitating or participating in illegal mining activities. The department also appealed to the public to report instances of unlawful mineral extraction and transportation to the concerned authorities.
Police maintained that sustained enforcement and coordinated action are essential to protect natural resources, prevent environmental degradation and ensure compliance with mining laws and regulations.
