BARAMULLA, SEPT 12: Baramulla Police cracked a theft case within 12 hours of its registration, arresting two accused persons and recovering 10 bundles of stolen steel allegedly lifted from an under-construction Srinagar–Baramulla National Highway camp site at Rengi.
The case came to light after S&P Infrastructure Developers, the executing agency for the highway project, lodged a written complaint regarding the theft. Subsequently, FIR Number 213/2026 under Section 303(2) of the BNS was registered on September 11.
During investigation, acting on credible information, police apprehended Faroq Ahmad Mir, son of Habibullah Mir, resident of Wanigam Bala, for questioning. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed his involvement in the theft along with his accomplice Ghulam Hassan Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar, resident of Tawheed Bagh, Sopore.
Based on their disclosure and identification, police recovered the stolen steel, while a pickup vehicle bearing registration number JK20B-9556, allegedly used in the commission of the offence, was also seized.
Both accused have been booked in the case, while further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the theft and establish any additional linkages.
Baramulla Police reiterated its commitment to swift and professional investigation, recovery of stolen property and bringing offenders to justice.
