AWANTIPORA, SEPT 11: Tral Police intensified its crackdown on drug-related activities, arresting three persons and recovering heroin-like and cannabis-like substances during a naka checking operation in the Tral area.
A police party conducting checking intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-8646, in which the three accused were travelling. During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, police recovered approximately 3 grams of heroin-like substance and 13.94 grams of cannabis-like substance.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sujad Saleem, son of Bashir Ahmad Turabi, resident of Diver; Feroz Ahmad Chopan, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, resident of Laruw Jageer; and Mohd. Shafi Mir, son of Abdul Aziz Mir, resident of Aripal.
All three were arrested on the spot, while the vehicle allegedly used in connection with the offence was also seized by police.
Following the recovery, FIR Number 102/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Tral, and investigation has been set into motion to establish the source of the recovered substances and ascertain the wider links, if any.
Police said the action forms part of its sustained campaign against the illegal drug trade and substance abuse, reiterating that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in drug-related activities.
The police appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and remain vigilant against the growing threat of narcotics, particularly among the youth.
