ANANTNAG, SEPT 18: J&K Police intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking in Anantnag, arresting three alleged drug peddlers in two separate operations and recovering a total of 84.6 grams of cannabis-like substance from their possession.
During naka checking at Darashikwa Crossing, Bijbehara, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara apprehended Som Sarthi, son of Deepak Sarthi, and Chotu Bariya, son of Kanhaiya Lal, both residents of Chhattisgarh and presently staying at Guree, Bijbehara.
A search led to the recovery of 74.6 grams of cannabis-like substance in stick form from their possession.
Police registered FIR Number 267/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bijbehara and initiated investigation into the case.
In a separate operation, a police party from Police Post Bus Stand intercepted Aijaz Ahmad Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Anchidoora, at Bus Stand Crossing.
During the search, police recovered 10 grams of cannabis-like substance from his possession.
In connection with the recovery, FIR Number 316/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered, with further investigation underway.
Police said the operations were part of its sustained campaign against narcotics trafficking and reiterated that stringent legal action would be taken against individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, while efforts would continue towards making Anantnag a drug-free district.
