According to police, a team from Police Station Zainapora apprehended two persons who were moving under suspicious circumstances, during routine checking along the Zainapora–Shirmal road near Degree College Zainapora. Their personal searches led to the recovery of suspected narcotic substances in different forms, along with cash, prompting the registration of a case under relevant provisions of law.

The accused have been identified as Arshid Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Mohd Mir, and Waseem Fayaz Bhat, son of Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Gandhwani village in Kulgam district.

During the search, police recovered two sticks of a cannabis-like substance weighing 130 grams, along with ₹3,000 in cash, from Arshid Ahmad Mir. Police said the investigation would focus on tracing the source of the recovered contraband and establishing its forward and backward linkages to determine whether the accused were connected to a wider drug supply network. The recovered material has been described as charas-like substance in the police statement; its final identification would depend on the relevant examination and investigation.

Reiterating its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and substance abuse, Shopian Police appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information about drug peddling, the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants and substance abuse in their localities.

Citizens have been urged to report such activities to their nearest police station. Police also assured that the identities of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
