JAMMU, SEPT 20: The much-awaited 4-km, four-lane Kunjwani–Satwari Flyover in Jammu is set to be opened to traffic in the first week of October, marking a significant step towards easing congestion on one of the city’s busiest traffic corridors.
The flyover is being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as part of the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway connectivity network, with the project aimed at improving the movement of traffic entering and passing through Jammu.
The elevated corridor is expected to provide a smoother and more direct passage between Kunjwani and Satwari, reducing dependence on the existing busy road stretches and easing pressure at major traffic junctions.
A key objective of the project is to address persistent congestion at Satwari Chowk, which witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day due to the movement of local vehicles, commercial traffic and traffic heading towards different parts of Jammu.
With the flyover becoming operational, through traffic will be able to bypass the congested junction, potentially reducing travel time and improving traffic flow towards Jammu city.
The four-lane elevated corridor is also expected to improve connectivity along the Jammu–Pathankot highway corridor and facilitate smoother movement of traffic towards important destinations in and around the city.
The project assumes added significance as Jammu continues to witness increasing vehicular movement, particularly along the major entry and exit corridors.
Traffic congestion at key junctions has remained a major challenge for commuters, especially during peak hours.
Officials and commuters expect the opening of the flyover to bring considerable relief to daily traffic movement, while also improving road safety and reducing delays caused by bottlenecks at Satwari.
The first week of October opening will also provide a major boost to the ongoing efforts to upgrade Jammu’s road infrastructure and integrate the city with modern high-speed highway connectivity.
Once operational, the Kunjwani–Satwari Flyover is expected to emerge as an important component of Jammu’s evolving transport network, providing a dedicated elevated route for through traffic while allowing greater capacity on the existing road network for local commuters.
