SRINAGAR, SEPT 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has formally relieved Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohd Zaid from his present assignment to enable him to join the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as Superintendent of Police on deputation, marking his induction into the central counter-terrorism investigation agency.
According to a Government Order issued by the Home Department, Mohd Zaid, SSP and Commanding Officer of 13 JKAP, has been relieved with effect from the afternoon of September 22, 2026, to take up his new assignment with the NIA.
The order states that Zaid’s deputation to the NIA will initially be for a period of four years. The tenure may be extended up to a maximum of seven years, subject to the terms and conditions prescribed by the NIA and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The government order formally clears the way for the senior police officer to assume responsibilities as SP in the NIA, an agency entrusted with investigation and prosecution of offences relating to terrorism and other matters affecting national security.
Mohd Zaid is presently serving as Commanding Officer of 13 JKAP. His relief from the J&K Police cadre follows the approval of his deputation to the central agency and will take effect from September 22 as specified in the order.
The deputation order has been issued by the Home Department by order of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. His tenure, service conditions and other aspects of the deputation will be governed by the provisions and terms stipulated by the NIA and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The move places a senior J&K Police officer in a central investigative role and comes as part of the established mechanism under which experienced officers from state and Union Territory police organisations are deputed to central agencies for specialised assignments.
