GANDERBAL, SEPT 22: A three-day training programme aimed at developing women’s leadership skills and strengthening their participation in decision-making began at the Tulmulla Campus of the Central University of Kashmir (CU Kashmir) on Tuesday in collaboration with the Schumacher Society, New Delhi.

Titled “Women’s Leadership: Build Leadership – Acquire Skills, Overcome Challenges,” the programme brings together faculty members, scholars and students for focused sessions on leadership development, skill building and challenges affecting women’s participation in leadership roles.

Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Shahid Rasool, while addressing the gathering, called for a stronger presence of women in leadership and decision-making spaces.

He said women are contributing across sectors, but their representation and recognition do not always match their contribution, making greater equality and fairness essential.

Registrar Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir urged participants to develop self-confidence, strengthen their knowledge and actively step forward to assume leadership responsibilities.

He said rapidly changing societies require individuals who can act as agents of positive change and called upon women to examine and overcome the factors limiting their participation.

“Believe in yourself, learn and then again participate,” Dr. Mir told the participants while encouraging them to utilise the training to enhance their capabilities.

Schumacher Society Chairman Prof. D.K. Giri said leadership should not be viewed merely as holding a position, but as the ability to influence, inspire and work with others to bring meaningful change. He underlined the need to develop leadership capacities capable of responding to changing social conditions.

Schumacher Society Director Dr. Susan Cherian said the training would go beyond imparting leadership skills by helping participants understand the social, cultural and institutional challenges that can affect women’s participation in leadership and explore ways to overcome them.

Senior Assistant Professor Dr. Mir Insha proposed the vote of thanks, while Ms. Manveen Kaur conducted the programme.
