NEW DELHI, SEPT 23: Indian Railways has commissioned the upgraded KAVACH 4.0 Automatic Train Protection system for the first time on a 108-km stretch of the South Central Railway in Telangana, marking a significant expansion of the country’s indigenous train safety technology.
Developed indigenously, KAVACH 4.0 is designed to assist locomotive pilots in maintaining prescribed speed limits and automatically apply brakes when necessary to help prevent collisions and other unsafe situations.
The upgraded version comes with enhanced technological capabilities, including improved location accuracy, better yard signalling and optical fibre integration, enabling more precise monitoring of train movements and signalling conditions.
The system is part of Indian Railways’ continuing efforts to strengthen automatic train protection and reduce the risk of accidents arising from overspeeding, signal violations and other operational hazards.
The commissioning of KAVACH 4.0 on the Telangana section is expected to serve as an important step towards the wider deployment of the upgraded system on railway routes across the country, further strengthening safety standards for passengers and railway operations.
