SAMBA, SEPT 26: Police intensified its action against drug trafficking, arresting two alleged drug peddlers in two separate cases and recovering a total of 14.46 grams of heroin-like substance from their possession.
In the first case, a team from Police Station Samba, acting on reliable information, established a naka at SIDCO Chowk, Samba, where a motorcycle bearing registration number JK21H-8952, travelling from Vijaypur towards Samba, was intercepted.
During checking, police recovered approximately 8.23 grams of heroin-like substance from the rider, identified as Surjeet Kumar, son of Major Ram, resident of Sadyiali, Naikali Nud, Tehsil and District Samba.
He was arrested and the suspected contraband was seized. The motorcycle allegedly used in the offence was also taken into custody.
In connection with the recovery, FIR Number 264/2026 under Sections 8/21/22/25 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Samba and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation, a team from Police Station Bari Brahmana, while conducting patrolling near Mulk Raj Colony, Bari Brahmana, intercepted a pedestrian travelling from Dhayansar towards Bishnah Road under suspicious circumstances.
A search led to the recovery of approximately 6.23 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
The accused was identified as Sanjeev Kumar, son of Prem Chand, resident of Haria Chak, Tehsil Marheen, District Kathua, presently residing near Shivji Mandir, SICOP Complex, Bari Brahmana.
Police arrested the accused and seized the suspected contraband.
A case FIR Number 283/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana, with further investigation underway.
SSP Samba appealed to the public to support the anti-drug campaign by sharing credible information regarding drug trafficking and suspicious activities with the nearest police station.
Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
