SRINAGAR, SEPT 28: In a major anti-narcotics push, J&K Police arrested five alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag, recovering more than 13.3 kg of a ganja, heroin-like and cannabis-like substances from their possession.
In Shopian, police from Police Post Berthipora intercepted Feroz Ahmad Wani, son of Gh. Rasool Wani, at Matipora Bridge during naka checking.
A search of his nylon bag led to the recovery of approximately 13.264 kg of a ganja-like substance, while another 4 grams of a cannabis-like substance was recovered during his personal search.
A case FIR Number 101/2026 has been registered at Police Station Keller, with investigators probing the source of the contraband and its forward and backward linkages.
In Kulgam, police intercepted a Tavera bearing registration number JK01T-4963 at Shampora Crossing on Qazigund NH and recovered 10 grams of a heroin-like substance from a bag kept in the dashboard drawer.
Driver Asif Shafi Bhat, son of Mohd Shafi Bhat of Gund Chadoora, Budgam, was arrested and FIR Number 233/2026 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Qazigund.
At Khandipairi, another accused, Ali, son of Abdul Manan, resident of JJ Colony, Delhi, presently residing at Pazalpora, Bijbehara, was apprehended with 6 grams of a heroin-like substance.
A case FIR Number 67/2026 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh.
Meanwhile, in Anantnag, Police Station Janglatmandi personnel apprehended Aamir Yousuf Khan alias Vicky Gadar of Hazratbal and recovered 7.68 grams of a cannabis-like substance from his possession.
In a separate operation at Aung Bridge, Police Post GBS personnel apprehended Tariq Ahmad Khanday, son of Abdul Rehman Khanday, resident of Aung, and recovered 10 grams of a cannabis-like substance.
Police said investigations in the cases have been initiated to establish the wider supply chains and identify possible linkages.
The coordinated operations underline the continuing focus on disrupting the availability and distribution of narcotic substances across South Kashmir.
