BARAMULLA, SEPT 28: Continuing enforcement of tobacco-control laws, J&K Police in Baramulla conducted a special anti-smoking drive in and around Boniyar and Chandanwari markets, taking action against persons found smoking in public places.
During the drive, violators were proceeded against and challans issued under Section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, which prohibits smoking in public places.
The enforcement action was aimed at ensuring compliance with statutory provisions, maintaining smoke-free public spaces and sensitising people about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
Police reiterated that smoking in public places is prohibited under law and appealed to citizens to cooperate with enforcement agencies in maintaining clean, healthy and smoke-free public spaces.
