LEH, OCT 1: Ladakh Police has solved a major jewellery theft case reported from Nowshara Gali in Leh within just three days, tracing the suspected interstate burglary network from Ladakh to Kashmir and arresting the alleged kingpin Nisar Ahmad Dar in Baramulla. Police said stolen jewellery and cash worth more than ₹74 lakh have been recovered, substantially advancing the investigation into the ₹80 lakh-plus heist.
According to the police, the breakthrough came through a combination of CCTV analysis, technical intelligence and sustained investigative efforts. Investigators reportedly reconstructed the movements of the suspects after the burglary and followed the digital and physical trail beyond Ladakh, eventually locating the alleged mastermind in Baramulla district of Kashmir.
The swift action assumes significance as the case involved a high-value jewellery theft in one of Leh’s commercial areas. Rather than limiting the investigation to the local crime scene, the police team pursued leads across jurisdictions, using surveillance inputs and technology to identify the suspects and trace the stolen property.
The arrest of Nisar Ahmad Dar, identified by police as the alleged kingpin, marked the key breakthrough in the three-day investigation. Following his apprehension in Baramulla, police recovered jewellery and cash valued at over ₹74 lakh, according to the official police communication.
The recovery represents a major portion of the property allegedly stolen in the Nowshara Gali burglary. Investigators are now expected to establish the complete network involved in the crime, determine the precise role of each suspect and ascertain whether additional persons were involved in planning, execution, transportation or disposal of the stolen valuables.
The case also highlights the increasing role of CCTV networks and technology-driven investigation in solving organised property crimes. Police surveillance footage and technical inputs reportedly helped investigators establish crucial links between the crime scene in Leh and the suspects’ subsequent movements towards Kashmir.
The operation required coordination beyond the geographical jurisdiction of Ladakh, with the investigation eventually leading police teams to Baramulla, where the alleged kingpin was apprehended. The development underlines the importance of inter-regional police coordination in cases where criminal groups allegedly move across the Union Territory boundaries after committing offences.
Ladakh Police said the case was solved in a swift three-day operation, with the recovery of stolen valuables providing a significant breakthrough. Further investigation is underway to identify the entire gang and recover any remaining stolen property.
The official District Police Leh communication confirms that the ₹80 lakh-plus Nowshara Gali jewellery heist was solved within three days, with Nisar Ahmad Dar arrested in Baramulla and more than ₹74 lakh worth of jewellery and cash recovered.
The latest action comes amid continued efforts by Ladakh Police to strengthen technology-based policing, surveillance and investigation capabilities across the Union Territory. The Ladakh Administration has also notified a dedicated Cyber Police Station, Ladakh, reflecting the expanding institutional focus on technology-assisted investigations.
