JAMMU, OCT 1: Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Tejinder Singh, on Thursday chaired a comprehensive security review meeting to assess the overall policing arrangements, operational preparedness and security posture of Jammu district, with particular emphasis on strengthening the security grid, enhancing field-level policing and ensuring a prompt response to emerging challenges.
The meeting reviewed the preparedness of the police force across key operational and law-and-order parameters, with the IGP calling for close supervision of ground-level arrangements and heightened vigilance. Officers were directed to maintain a proactive approach and ensure that policing remains visible, responsive and effective across the district.
A major focus of the review was winter preparedness. The IGP directed officers to make all necessary logistical and operational arrangements in advance and ensure that personnel and resources remain fully prepared to deal with challenges that may arise during the winter months. Officers were asked to maintain readiness and ensure that essential policing arrangements are not affected by adverse weather conditions.
Emphasising the importance of visible policing, IGP Jammu directed field officers to intensify regular foot patrols and strengthen area domination in vulnerable and strategically important locations. Increased police presence, he said, should serve both as a deterrent against criminal activity and as a mechanism for strengthening public confidence in the security apparatus.
The meeting also laid particular emphasis on naka checking and surveillance mechanisms. Officers were instructed to strengthen checking at vulnerable points, maintain effective surveillance and ensure close monitoring of suspicious movements to prevent criminal and anti-social activities. The field formations were directed to remain alert and ensure that preventive policing mechanisms operate effectively on the ground.
The IGP further reviewed the status of investigation and disposal of pending cases, directing investigating officers and supervisory officers to ensure timely completion of investigations and avoid unnecessary pendency. He stressed the need for close monitoring of investigation timelines and effective supervision so that cases are brought to their logical conclusion within the prescribed legal framework.
Preventive policing also remained a key component of the review. Officers were directed to identify and closely monitor repeat and habitual offenders and initiate appropriate preventive measures in accordance with law to prevent their involvement in further criminal activities. The emphasis was on strengthening the preventive policing network rather than responding only after offences occur.
Another important issue discussed during the meeting was tenant verification. The IGP directed officers to ensure proper and timely verification of tenants and other persons residing in rented accommodation. Field officers were asked to maintain effective verification mechanisms and ensure compliance with established procedures, particularly in areas where population movement and rented accommodation require enhanced monitoring.
The review meeting also underscored the importance of close coordination between supervisory officers and field formations. Officers were directed to maintain regular oversight of security arrangements, identify vulnerabilities at the local level and take corrective measures without delay.
Concluding the meeting, IGP Jammu directed all concerned officers to remain vigilant, operationally prepared and closely connected with field-level developments. He stressed that effective policing must combine security preparedness with responsiveness to public concerns and directed officers to ensure people-oriented, professional and accountable policing throughout Jammu district.
The directions issued during the meeting come against the backdrop of the need for sustained vigilance, particularly with the onset of winter, when police formations are required to maintain both security preparedness and uninterrupted public services.
