LEH, OCT 1: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Ladakh, has intensified its crackdown on illicit pharmaceuticals, recovering 6,146 intoxicant tablets during a late-night search operation at a residential premises in Choglamsar.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team of Police Station ANTF, Ladakh conducted the search at the residence of Tsewang Chonjor, a resident of Choglamsar, and recovered the suspected contraband during the operation.
The seizure was carried out in accordance with due legal procedure and in the presence of independent witnesses, including the President of the Youth Wing of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and the Nambardar of Choglamsar, police said.
Following the recovery, FIR Number 17/2026 under Section 8/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station ANTF, Ladakh. Further investigation has been initiated to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession and intended use of the recovered tablets and to ascertain whether the seizure has links to a wider illicit supply network.
The seizure highlights the growing focus of law-enforcement agencies on the illegal diversion and circulation of pharmaceutical substances, alongside conventional narcotic drugs. Such substances, when diverted from legitimate medical use and circulated unlawfully, can pose serious public-health and enforcement challenges.
ANTF Ladakh said its operations against illegal drugs would continue on the basis of intelligence inputs and legal action, reiterating its zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics and other illicit drug activity.
“No drug will be overlooked. No offender will be spared,” the ANTF said, reaffirming its commitment to disrupting the illegal drug trade and preventing the circulation of narcotic and psychotropic substances in the region.
