ANANTNAG, OCT 1: Anantnag Police on Thursday took its youth outreach programme beyond conventional policing by organising a cycle race from Verinag to Dooru under the ongoing Civic Action Programme (CAP)-2026, bringing together sport, fitness and community engagement on a common platform.
The event saw the participation of 30 cyclists, who covered the Verinag–Dooru route with enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The initiative was aimed at encouraging young people to adopt healthy lifestyles while providing them with a constructive platform to pursue sporting interests and showcase their cycling abilities.
Beyond the sporting activity, the race formed part of Anantnag Police’s broader youth-oriented outreach under CAP-2026, with the focus on creating opportunities for positive interaction between young people and the police.
Officials said such community programmes are intended to channel the energy of youth towards sports, physical fitness, discipline and productive activities, while simultaneously strengthening public engagement with the police.
The participation of local cyclists also underscored the potential of sporting activities as a means of identifying and encouraging emerging talent at the grassroots level. By taking such initiatives to different areas, Anantnag Police is seeking to expand its community-oriented activities and provide youth with avenues for constructive participation.
The police said similar activities under CAP-2026 would continue to focus on youth engagement, sporting development and stronger police-public relations, complementing the department’s regular policing responsibilities with community-based initiatives.
