ANANTNAG, OCT 5: Anantnag is set to witness a new chapter in its local cricketing landscape with the first-ever Day-Night Cricket Tournament in the district, with organisers announcing that the ACCL tournament will commence on October 11 at Anantnag Stadium.
The announcement was made during a press conference by the management of the ACCL Cricket Tournament, which said the competition will feature 12 teams and provide local cricketers with an opportunity to experience competitive cricket under floodlights on a turf wicket at the stadium.
The introduction of the Day-Night format is expected to provide a different competitive environment for players while also creating an opportunity for cricket enthusiasts to watch matches in an evening setting. Organisers said the tournament is aimed at providing a structured platform for local talent and giving players greater exposure to organised cricket.
Speaking at the press conference, Ranji cricketer Nasir Ahmad Wani described the tournament as an important opportunity for cricket enthusiasts and emerging players of Anantnag. He said the Day-Night format could add a new dimension to local cricket while providing young cricketers with an engaging platform to showcase their skills.
Wani also urged cricket lovers to turn up in large numbers and extend their support to the participating teams and young players. He said encouragement from spectators can play an important role in motivating budding cricketers and strengthening the local sporting culture.
With 12 teams scheduled to compete from October 11, the tournament is expected to bring together players and cricket followers from across the district, while the use of the turf wicket and Day-Night format marks a new addition to the local cricket calendar.
