NUBRA, OCT 5: A series of Special Gram Sabha programmes were held in Hunder, Tegar, Partapur and Tyakshi villages of Nubra on Monday under the People’s Plan Campaign, providing local residents with a platform to participate directly in development planning and place their village-specific priorities before the administration.
The programmes brought together residents and officers and officials from various line departments, who interacted with the community and briefed them on a range of Government of India welfare schemes and development programmes being implemented for public benefit. The officials explained the eligibility requirements, benefits and services available under different schemes, besides apprising residents about the procedures for accessing these facilities.
A key component of the programmes was the direct community consultation, with residents raising demands, suggesting development priorities and highlighting grievances concerning public infrastructure, essential services and other local issues. The concerns raised during the Gram Sabhas were formally recorded for examination and appropriate follow-up by the concerned departments.
The initiative also incorporated a healthcare outreach component, with health camps organised in all four villages. Local residents were provided access to health-related services, adding a public-welfare dimension to the grassroots planning exercise.
The Special Gram Sabha programmes underscored the role of village-level institutions and community participation in identifying development needs, enabling local residents to articulate priorities that can be considered while preparing and implementing development plans.
The People’s Plan Campaign thus provided an avenue for strengthening the connection between communities and government departments, while ensuring that local concerns, welfare needs and development priorities are brought into the planning process at the grassroots level.
