BUDGAM, SEPT 13: Budgam Police has cracked a major theft case involving gold ornaments, cash and valuables stolen from a residential house at Housing Colony Ompora, arresting two accused and recovering a substantial portion of the stolen property.
The breakthrough came during investigation of FIR No. 231/2026, registered at Police Station Budgam. Police, along with DMFU Budgam, conducted a forensic examination of the crime scene and analysed CCTV footage, tower dump data, witness statements and CDRs.
During the investigation, a red-coloured three-wheeler load carrier bearing registration number JK01AX-8025 was identified as a suspected vehicle near the crime scene.
Based on the evidence gathered, police identified and arrested Danish Ahmad Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar, and Azhar Rashid Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, both residents of Shah Colony, Parimpora, Srinagar. The suspected vehicle was also seized.
Further recovery proceedings led to the recovery of a gold ring weighing around 3 grams, ₹47,000 in cash and another three-wheeler load carrier bearing registration number JK01AV-1599. Police said the stolen gold was traced to its alleged disposal through persons associated with gold-testing and jewellery businesses in Srinagar. Subsequently, ₹9 lakh in cash was produced before Police Station Budgam and seized as per law.
In a parallel financial probe, ₹2.70 lakh has been frozen in the bank accounts of the accused, while the financial trail is being examined to trace the complete proceeds allegedly generated through disposal of the stolen property.
During the recovery proceedings, police also recovered a digital weighing machine and 4.32 grams of brown sugar-like suspected contraband. Following the recovery, relevant provisions of the NDPS Act were added to the case and further investigation initiated.
So far, police have recovered or seized ₹9.47 lakh in cash, one gold ring weighing approximately 3 grams, 4.32 grams of suspected contraband, one metal box, one digital weighing machine and two three-wheeler load carriers bearing registration numbers JK01AX-8025 and JK01AV-1599.
Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining proceeds of crime, scrutinise financial transactions and identify all persons allegedly connected with the offence.
J&K Police said it remains committed to a thorough, evidence-based investigation and bringing all persons found involved to justice in accordance with law.
