UDHAMPUR, OCT 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Nitish Singh Jamwal, Fireman in the office of the Assistant Director, Fire & Emergency Services, Udhampur, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with the processing and issuance of a Fire & Emergency Services No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a hotel in Katra.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on October 6, 2026, on the basis of a complaint alleging that Jamwal had demanded ₹40,000 from the complainant for processing and issuing the requisite fire safety NOC for the hotel.

Following negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹15,000 as the bribe amount. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on the same day and caught Jamwal red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant.

The arrest followed a coordinated trap operation by the anti-corruption agency, which initiated the proceedings after verifying the allegations contained in the complaint. The alleged demand was linked specifically to the official process concerning the Fire & Emergency Services NOC required for the hotel at Katra.

The case highlights the CBI’s continued focus on alleged corruption in public service delivery, particularly where statutory clearances and official approvals are involved. Fire safety NOCs are mandatory regulatory clearances for establishments such as hotels, with the process involving verification of compliance with prescribed fire and safety requirements.

The CBI said the investigation is continuing. Further action will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation and the applicable legal process.
