KATHUA, SEPT 29: A fratricide incident within a CISF security deployment at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Power Project in Mashka, Kathua, left four personnel dead on Tuesday after a Head Constable allegedly opened fire with his service weapon at fellow members of the force.
According to information received from reliable sources, Head Constable Abdesh Kumar, deployed with the CISF contingent at the power project, allegedly opened fire on his colleagues. The incident resulted in four fatalities within the security deployment.
The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, serving as Company Commander; Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh; Constable Sanjeev Kumar; and Constable Mohd. Rafiq.
The death of Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, the Company Commander, places a senior CISF officer among the victims. An SI and two Constables were also among those who lost their lives in the firing.
The incident reportedly took place within the power project premises, where CISF personnel are deployed for security duties.
Authorities have initiated steps to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and reconstruct the sequence of events.
The events preceding the firing, the circumstances in which the service weapon was used and the motive behind the incident remain to be established.
