JAMMU, SEPT 29: Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu has arrested an accused who had been absconding for nearly 12 years during the trial of a case registered at Police Station GRP Manwal, marking a significant breakthrough in its ongoing drive to trace absconders and proclaimed offenders.
The accused, identified as Pankaj Kumar, son of Jagdish Raj, originally a resident of near Ravi Dass Mandir, Haripora, R.S. Pura, Jammu, and presently associated with East Hussainpura, Shariefpura, Rani Bazaar, Amritsar, was wanted in FIR Number 01/2015 under Section 382/34 RPC registered at Police Station GRP Manwal.
After being traced and arrested, Pankaj Kumar was produced before the Railway Court, Jammu, and has subsequently been lodged in District Jail Ambphalla, Jammu.
Police said investigation and verification revealed that the accused was allegedly involved in eight other snatching/theft cases and one NDPS case registered in major cities of Punjab, including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur, besides another FIR registered in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The accused had also remained lodged in Sub-Jail Pathankot from 2022 to 2025, according to police.
The arrest forms part of GRP Jammu’s sustained efforts to locate absconders and bring long-pending cases to their legal conclusion.
Police said Pankaj Kumar is the 18th absconder arrested by GRP Jammu during the past two years.
The action underscores the Railway Police’s continued focus on tracing accused persons who evade the judicial process and ensuring their production before the competent courts.
