JAMMU, SEPT 24: An intensive cleanliness and public awareness drive was conducted at major railway stations across Jammu Division on Thursday as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, with railway staff, Safai Mitras and volunteers joining hands to promote cleanliness, responsible waste disposal and reduction in plastic use.
The campaign was organised across prominent stations including Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan (Udhampur) and Pathankot Cantt, besides other stations falling under Jammu Division.
During the drive, passengers and railway stall vendors were sensitised about the complete ban on single-use plastic and encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives. Informative pamphlets were distributed among passengers to spread awareness about the harmful impact of plastic waste and the importance of maintaining cleanliness at railway premises.
Railway employees, Safai Mitras and volunteers also participated in Shramdaan activities at the stations.
The participants cleaned railway premises and appealed to passengers to avoid littering, properly dispose of waste and contribute towards keeping platforms, circulating areas and other passenger facilities clean.
The campaign also focused on waste management and creating greater awareness among passengers about maintaining hygiene during their journey.
Officials emphasised that cleanliness at railway stations requires active participation from passengers, vendors, employees and other stakeholders.
The Jammu Division Railway Administration said it remains committed to promoting a clean, green and plastic-free railway environment and appealed to passengers to cooperate with cleanliness initiatives and avoid the use of single-use plastic.
The administration further urged passengers to make cleanliness a shared responsibility and help maintain railway premises in a neat and hygienic condition.
