SAMBA, SEPT 24: DIG Jammu Shridhar Patil, reviewed the security arrangements and contingency preparedness along the railway network in District Samba and directed security agencies to further strengthen surveillance, patrolling and coordination to prevent any potential security threat.
During the review, the DIG stressed strict compliance with established Railway Security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and called for enhanced patrolling along vulnerable stretches of the railway network.
He directed officers to identify and closely monitor sensitive locations, with particular focus on areas where security gaps could be exploited.
Emphasising the importance of technology-driven surveillance, Shridhar Patil called for effective CCTV coverage of vulnerable locations and directed that the mapping of banquet halls, establishments and other structures located in the vicinity of railway tracks be carried out.
The exercise, he said, would help security agencies maintain better situational awareness and facilitate timely response in case of any suspicious activity.
The DIG also stressed adequate illumination of railway bridges, underpasses and other vulnerable points, particularly those that could provide concealed access or create difficulties for surveillance during night hours.
He further directed officers to maintain close and effective coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and other sister security agencies for seamless information sharing and coordinated response to emerging threats.
As part of contingency preparedness, Patil directed that regular SMAC meetings be conducted and joint mock drills organised to assess the preparedness of all concerned agencies for different emergency scenarios.
He emphasised that such exercises should focus on identifying gaps in response mechanisms and ensuring that personnel are familiar with their respective roles during an emergency.
The DIG also called for timely sharing of intelligence and field inputs regarding suspicious activities, movement of unidentified persons and drone sightings in and around railway installations and tracks.
He underscored the need for constant vigilance, proactive security measures and inter-agency coordination to ensure the safety and security of railway infrastructure, passengers and railway personnel across the district.
