SOPORE, SEPT 17: DIG North Kashmir Range Dr Vinod Kumar today directed Police District Sopore to further strengthen police-public coordination and ensure prompt attention to genuine public grievances while presiding over Thana Diwas at Police Station Bomai in Zaingeer.
The DIG interacted with a large gathering comprising respectable citizens, civil society members, representatives of different communities, youth and other stakeholders from Bomai, Zaingeer and adjoining areas.
SSP Sopore Iftikhar Talib and other senior officers of Police District Sopore were also present.
During the interaction, participants raised issues related to policing, public services, traffic management, drug abuse and other matters affecting the local community.
The officers heard the grievances and suggestions and assured that genuine police-related issues would be addressed on priority, while matters falling within the jurisdiction of other departments would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
Addressing the gathering, DIG NKR Dr Vinod Kumar stressed that Thana Diwas should serve as an effective platform for direct public-police interaction, grievance redressal and strengthening mutual trust.
He directed officers to maintain accessible, responsive and people-friendly policing and ensure that police stations remain approachable institutions for the public.
The DIG also called for greater community participation in preventing crime and maintaining peace.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly share information regarding drug trafficking, criminal activities, suspicious movements and other threats to public safety.Particular emphasis was laid on preventing drug abuse among youth.
The DIG called upon parents, teachers, religious leaders, civil society representatives and Police to work collectively to safeguard young people from drugs and other negative influences.
SSP Sopore Iftikhar Talib reiterated Sopore Police’s commitment to professional, fair and responsive policing and encouraged citizens to approach Police without hesitation with their grievances and concerns.
He stressed that public engagement must continue beyond formal Thana Diwas programmes to ensure sustained police-community coordination.
The programme concluded with an open interaction during which the DIG sought feedback from participants and discussed various suggestions and concerns.
The Police leadership directed that regular public outreach, timely grievance redressal and community engagement be further strengthened to consolidate police-public partnership and contribute towards a peaceful, secure and crime-free society.
