DIG Sargun Shukla takes comprehensive stock of Kishtwar security grid, directs zero-tolerance against drug trade, smuggling

KISHTWAR, OCT 3: A comprehensive assessment of the security and crime landscape of Kishtwar was undertaken on Saturday as DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range Sargun Shukla, IPS, visited the district and chaired a high-level Crime-cum-Security Review Meeting at District Police Headquarters.

The meeting focused on strengthening the security architecture, sharpening preventive policing and ensuring effective investigation and prosecution of criminal cases amid the evolving security and law-and-order challenges in the district.

SSP Kishtwar Sunny Gupta, welcomed the DIG and presented an extensive PowerPoint briefing covering the district’s prevailing security scenario, terrorism-related challenges, counter-terror preparedness, crime trends, NDPS cases, anti-drug operations, bovine smuggling, property offences, crimes against women and girl children, law and order and other key policing issues.

The review provided a detailed platform for assessing the operational preparedness of police formations and the effectiveness of measures being implemented at the field level. Senior officers briefed the DIG on ongoing operations, preventive actions, investigation of cases, prosecution-related issues and measures being adopted to maintain peace and security across the district.

Taking a firm view of the drug menace, DIG Sargun Shukla directed officers to accord top priority to effective investigation and timely disposal of NDPS cases, stressing the need to pursue cases through their logical conclusion and strengthen prosecution against those involved in narcotics trafficking.

She further called for sustained and stringent action against drug traffickers, bovine smugglers, habitual offenders and other criminal elements, directing field formations to intensify preventive measures, area domination and night patrolling.

The DIG also emphasised the need for vigilant field policing, stronger coordination and intelligence-based preventive action to counter security threats and prevent criminal activities before they escalate. Officers were urged to maintain close coordination among police formations and ensure prompt response to emerging law-and-order situations.

Particular attention was also given to crimes affecting vulnerable sections of society, including women and girl children, with directions to ensure professional handling of such cases and timely investigation.

Appreciating the work undertaken by District Police Kishtwar in maintaining peace, tackling the drug menace and strengthening public outreach, the DIG called upon officers to maintain high standards of professionalism, discipline, accountability and operational preparedness.

The meeting was attended by Additional SP Kishtwar, SP PC Kishtwar, SDPOs, SHOs, Incharge Police Posts, Branch Heads of DPO Kishtwar and other senior officers, who participated in the detailed review of the district’s security and crime-management framework.
