KOCHI, SEPT 27: In a major step towards strengthening indigenous underwater technology capabilities, Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO Rajesh Kumar Singh laid the foundation stone for the SONAR Engineering Assembly, Test & Evaluation Center (SEATEC) at the SAROVAR Campus of Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Balamuralikrishnan R., DG (NS&M); Dr. Ravindra Singh, DG (R&M); Dr. Duvvuri Seshagiri, Director, NPOL; and Dr. Bishwajeet Choubey, Director, DCWE.
The upcoming facility will house an underwater simulation channel and advanced machinery and equipment for the development, assembly, testing and evaluation of next-generation SONAR and underwater surveillance systems.
SEATEC is envisaged as a key facility for advancing India’s underwater technology ecosystem, enabling comprehensive testing and evaluation of sophisticated systems under simulated underwater conditions.
The centre will strengthen Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) capabilities and support the country’s maritime security requirements.
The initiative also aligns with the broader objective of Atmanirbhar Bharat, providing indigenous infrastructure for the development and validation of critical underwater defence technologies.
