Drug peddler arrested with 1.15 kg cannabis in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, SEPT 14: Bandipora Police has seized 1.150 kg of suspected cannabis and arrested one person during a checking operation at Shok Baba Sumlar near Hatchery, dealing another blow to the illegal narcotics trade in the district.

During dynamic naka checking, a police party from Police Post Sumlar, led by the DO Sumlar, intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK15C-5452.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a polythene bag containing a contraband-like substance suspected to be cannabis, weighing approximately 1,150 grams.

The person in possession of the scooty was identified as Haris Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Wani, resident of T.A. Shah.

He was arrested on the spot, while the scooty was also seized as part of the investigation.

Police subsequently registered FIR Number 148/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bandipora and initiated further investigation to establish the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband.

The recovery comes as Bandipora Police continues its intensified crackdown on the possession, transportation and illegal trade of narcotic substances, with strict legal action being taken against those involved in drug-related activities.
