LEH, SEPT 17: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, inaugurated the ‘Eliezer Joldan Memorial Lecture Series’ at the college campus, commemorating the legacy of Late Eliezer Joldan, a pioneer educationist of Ladakh.
Prof. Tadzin Joldan, distinguished academician, daughter of Late Eliezer Joldan and founding Principal of EJM College, attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest.
She was accompanied by her husband, Vachoo, her sister Madam Martha Joldan and special guest Anna Bemrose from Australia.
The programme began with a traditional reception led by Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal, EJM College, along with Prof. Tsewang Mutup, Dean, College Development Council (DCDC), and Prof. Samina Iqbal, Principal, Government Degree College Khaltse and SPD, PM-USHA.
The guests were presented ceremonial khataks before the lighting of the traditional lamp.
Assistant Professor Raziya Parveen, Senior Professor and Convener, IQAC, in her welcome address, outlined the purpose of the lecture series, emphasising its objective of connecting students with the educational, ethical and cultural values associated with the legacy of Late Eliezer Joldan.
Delivering the inaugural lecture, Prof. Tadzin Joldan recalled her father’s life, vision and contribution to education, besides sharing the challenges and historical journey associated with the establishment of the Degree College in Leh.
She also spoke about her association with the institution, the values imparted by her father and her professional journey through various higher educational institutions in Srinagar, including Women’s College, before serving as the founding Principal of EJM College.
Prof. Joldan also fondly recalled her longtime friend, Anna Bemrose, who first visited Leh in 1978 and met her and her father. She expressed happiness over Bemrose’s return to Ladakh after 48 years.
She also acknowledged the support of her husband, Vachoo, former General Manager of J&K Tourism, throughout her professional journey and association with Ladakh.
A felicitation ceremony followed the lecture, during which mementos and tokens of appreciation were presented to the guests.
An interactive session was also held, allowing students and faculty members to engage with Prof. Joldan on higher education leadership, moral values and institutional heritage.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Professor Dr Sonam Wangmo, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, organisers and participants for making the inaugural lecture series a meaningful occasion.
