BARAMULLA, SEPT 18: Baramulla Police has stepped up its crackdown on gambling and other social crimes, with a raid at Khanpora leading to the arrest of one alleged gambler and the seizure of cash, playing cards and mobile phones.

On receiving reliable information about gambling for money near a water reservoir at Khanpora, a team from Police Station Baramulla launched a raid at the spot.

One person, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Sofi, son of Gh. Nabi Sofi of Khanpora, was apprehended, while three others reportedly escaped.

Police recovered ₹1,720 in stake money, playing cards and three mobile phones during the operation.

The identities of the three absconders have been ascertained and teams are working to trace and arrest them.

A case under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Baramulla and further investigation is underway.

Police said action against illegal gambling and other activities disturbing public order would continue across the district.
