GANDERBAL, OCT 21: District Police Ganderbal observed Police Commemoration Day with solemnity and reverence at Qamariya Stadium on Wednesday, paying rich tributes to police personnel and security force members who laid down their lives in the line of duty while safeguarding the nation and protecting its citizens.

The commemorative ceremony was chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Harshal Rajesh Mahajan, who took the ceremonial salute and read out the names of the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. The solemn proceedings honoured the bravery, dedication and unwavering commitment of personnel who sacrificed their lives in the discharge of their duties.

The Police Commemoration Day parade witnessed the participation of contingents from District Police Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Lady Constable Battalion and the District Police Pipe Band. The coordinated participation of the contingents reflected discipline, solidarity and a shared commitment to remembering the fallen heroes.

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was subsequently held, during which SSP Ganderbal, officers of the civil administration, senior police officers and family members of the martyrs laid floral tributes to honour the departed personnel. The ceremony provided an opportunity to remember the courage and selfless service of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The participation of the martyrs’ family members added a deeply emotional dimension to the occasion, acknowledging the enduring pain of their loss and the immense sacrifices made by families whose loved ones gave their lives in service to the nation. Their courage and resilience remain a source of inspiration for serving personnel and society alike.

Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honour personnel who lost their lives while performing their duties. The day commemorates the sacrifice of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.

The observance at Qamariya Stadium reaffirmed the importance of remembering the fallen heroes and preserving their legacy of courage, discipline, duty and public service. The sacrifices of these personnel serve as a lasting reminder of the risks undertaken by security forces to maintain peace, protect citizens and uphold the security of the nation.

Through the solemn ceremony, Ganderbal paid homage to its bravehearts, reaffirming respect for their supreme sacrifices and solidarity with the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.
