Jammu, Sep 27: National Conference (NC) Member Parliament (MP) Aga Syed Ruhullah on Sunday questioned his party if it was not working on BJP agenda by diluting its own autonomy and other resolutions vis-a-vis J&K’s political position through its latest statehood resolution, moved in the J&K Legislative Assembly.
Ruhullah was responding to media queries after an interaction with youth in Kishtwar.
“The crucial resolutions earlier passed by this assembly are being diluted through the same House by the ruling clique. Autonomy resolution cleared by this House has been watered down by mentioning it in statehood resolution,” he said.
Finding fault with the opposition also, he alleged that the prestigious forum of assembly was being used to further the “communal and divisive agenda of BJP and RSS.”
“On the whole, the dignity of the august House (J&K Legislative Assembly) was being undermined, thus degrading its status and functioning. And all (ruling and opposition) are working hand in glove to weaken its role as a strong political institution imperative for bolstering public-delivery mechanism, addressing people’s issues. Instead of addressing people’s grievances, it (House) has been reduced to a wrestling-arena where reels take precedence over public issues,” Ruhullah alleged.
He accused the legislators of having failed to live up to the people’s expectations.
With regard to a question about his next political move, the rebel NC MP stated that a collective decision would be taken after November 3.
“A new political party has to be floated or some other measure has to be taken – a call in this connection will be taken after such public interactions. A collective decision, based on public opinion, will be announced after November 3. Presently my focus is to complete all my responsibilities vis-a-vis MPLAD and commitment regarding outreach efforts,” Ruhullah said.
He alleged that NC, in the past, used to accuse those talking about statehood of furthering the BJP agenda.
“Is NC, presently in the chair, not serving the BJP agenda, while talking about statehood? Ask them. NC was given votes to fight against the BJP agenda and fight for (J&K’s) constitutional rights and protection.
To talk about statehood, leaving behind issues related to constitutional guarantees amounts to furthering the BJP agenda. It was a fact before polls and the reality has not changed even after polls,” he took another dig at NC and its leadership.
