SRINAGAR, SEPT 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution moved by Minister for Education Sakina Itoo, seeking exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirement for teachers appointed before October 31, 2019.
The resolution urges the Union Government to amend the relevant provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) framework to provide relief to teachers appointed before the specified cutoff date.
Moving the resolution in the House, Sakina Itoo sought consideration of the issue concerning teachers who were appointed prior to October 31, 2019, and are now covered by the TET requirement under the applicable legal provisions.
The House, through the resolution, urged the Centre to consider an appropriate amendment to the relevant provisions of the RTE framework so that teachers appointed before October 31, 2019, are exempted from the TET requirement.
The resolution seeks to address the concerns of the affected teaching community and provide clarity on the applicability of the eligibility requirement to appointments made before the specified cutoff date.
The Assembly’s move now calls upon the Union Government to examine the matter and take necessary steps to amend the relevant provisions, paving the way for relief to teachers appointed before October 31, 2019.
