REASI, SEPT 18: Katra Police has intensified its crackdown on the illegal possession and misuse of intoxicant capsules, apprehending three persons in two separate operations and recovering 360 capsules from their possession.
In the first operation, a police party from Police Station Katra intercepted Suresh Kumar, son of Penu, resident of Devigarh, Tehsil Bhomag, District Reasi, presently staying at Katra, while he was proceeding from Asia Chowk towards Balni.
During his search, police recovered 17 strips, totalling 170 intoxicant capsules.
Police said the accused failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the capsules.
Following the recovery, FIR Number 296/2026 under Section 223 BNS was registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation was initiated.
In another major action, Katra Police established a naka at Nomain Check Post and intercepted an electric auto bearing registration number JK20D-2181, carrying two persons.
During checking and personal searches, police recovered 19 strips containing 190 intoxicant capsules of 300 mg each.
The driver, identified as Mohd. Iqbal alias Gaafu, resident of Lattori, Katra, was found carrying 10 strips containing 100 capsules, while the second occupant, Mohd. Rafiq, son of Sakhi Mohd., resident of Bhaga, Serla, Reasi, was allegedly carrying nine strips containing 90 capsules.
Police said the recovery violated the order/notification issued by the District Magistrate, Reasi, restricting/prohibiting possession of Pregabalin capsules.
Accordingly, FIR Number 295/2026 under Section 223 BNS was registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway.
The twin operations have highlighted Katra Police’s continued focus on preventing the illegal possession and misuse of intoxicant capsules in the area.
Police reiterated that strict action will be taken against persons involved in the illegal possession, supply or misuse of such substances, in accordance with law.
