Lar Police arrests drug peddler, recovers 72 gms of cannabis-like substance

GANDERBAL, OCT 5: Continuing its intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities, Lar Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 72 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance during a surprise checking operation conducted on the Wahidpora–Watalbagh Road.

The operation was carried out after police established a surprise naka near Dar Mohalla Crossing as part of ongoing efforts to intercept the movement of narcotic substances. During checking, a person identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganaie, son of Mohd Sultan Ganaie, resident of Sindbal Tulmulla, Ganderbal, allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the police party.

The police personnel responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect. During his personal search, 72 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession, according to police.

Following the recovery, FIR Number 28/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Lar, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the recovered substance and establish the broader circumstances surrounding its possession and intended movement.

Police said the action forms part of its sustained campaign against the drug supply network and trafficking of narcotic substances in the district, with enforcement measures being undertaken to disrupt the availability and movement of drugs.

Ganderbal Police reiterated its commitment to combating the drug menace and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and extend cooperation to law-enforcement agencies by sharing credible information regarding drug trafficking and related activities.
