SOPORE, SEPT 12: MET Higher Secondary School Sopore and Sub Coaching Centre Handball Club Sopore emerged as the two finalists of the Handball Tournament organised by J&K Police under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026-27 at Khushal Sports Stadium, Sopore.
The tournament, aimed at providing young sportspersons a platform to showcase their talent and compete at a higher level, witnessed participation from eight teams from across Police District Sopore. The opening day remained packed with sporting activity, with six matches played amid enthusiastic participation from players and supporters.
The participating teams displayed competitive handball, with players demonstrating skill, fitness, discipline and determination throughout the matches. After a series of closely contested encounters, MET Higher Secondary School Sopore and Sub Coaching Centre Handball Club Sopore secured their places in the much-awaited final.
The tournament forms part of J&K Police’s wider youth engagement initiatives under CAP, aimed at encouraging young people to pursue sports and channel their energy towards positive, healthy and constructive activities.
The sporting initiative also provided an opportunity for greater interaction between police personnel, young players and the local community, thereby contributing towards strengthening police-public relations and community participation.
J&K Police said sports activities under CAP 2026-27 will continue to be organised across Police District Sopore, with focus on identifying and encouraging emerging local talent and providing youth with meaningful opportunities to develop their sporting abilities.
With both teams now through to the title clash, the tournament has set the stage for an exciting final, where MET Higher Secondary School Sopore and Sub Coaching Centre Handball Club Sopore will battle for the championship.
J&K Police extended its best wishes to both finalists and appreciated the participation, enthusiasm and sporting spirit displayed by all the teams during the tournament.
