Nagri Police bust illicit liquor operation in Goond, 15 litres seized; one arrested

KATHUA, OCT 4: Acting on credible information and stepping up its enforcement drive against the illegal liquor trade, Nagri Police arrested one person and seized approximately 15 litres of illicit desi liquor during a targeted operation in the Goond area of Kathua district.

The action was initiated after Police Post Nagri received specific information that a person was allegedly in possession of illicit liquor and attempting to sell it in the area. Acting promptly on the input, a police team from PP Nagri launched a raid and intercepted the suspected individual.

During the subsequent checking, approximately 15 litres of desi liquor were recovered from his possession. The accused was taken into custody on the spot, while the seized material was secured as evidence for further legal proceedings.

The arrested person has been identified as Pawan Kumar, son of Joginder Kumar, a resident of Korepunnu, Tehsil and District Kathua.

In connection with the recovery, FIR Number 494/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Kathua. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances behind the possession and suspected sale of the illicit liquor.

The operation underscores the continued focus of Nagri Police on curbing unauthorised liquor activities and preventing the illegal distribution of intoxicating substances in residential and rural areas. Police are maintaining surveillance and acting on credible inputs to identify persons involved in such activities.

SSP Kathua has issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the illegal liquor trade, stating that anyone found violating the law will face strict legal action.
