BARAMULLA, SEPT 28: Pattan Police have made a swift breakthrough in the Khidmat Centre theft case, arresting the accused and recovering part of the stolen cash, while records indicate his alleged involvement in 14 previous theft-related cases registered across the Valley.
The case was reported on September 25, when Mir Waheed, son of Mohd Ayoub Mir, resident of Mamoosa, Pattan, approached Police Station Pattan stating that ₹83,000 in cash had been stolen from his Khidmat Centre bearing Code No. JKBAR5691 at Mirpora, Mamoosa.
The complainant had reportedly left the centre to offer Friday prayers and, on returning, found that an unidentified person had entered the premises. The CCTV storage device installed at the centre was also found missing.
Pattan Police registered FIR Number 222/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) BNS and launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator and trace the stolen property.
Working on technical inputs and ICJS Portal records, investigators identified the suspect as Rameez Ahmad Naikoo, son of Gh. Mohammad Naikoo, resident of Bhan, Kulgam.
A police team was subsequently dispatched to Kulgam, where the accused was apprehended and arrested following sustained investigative efforts.
During investigation, police recovered ₹5,130 in cash from the accused’s residential house on his disclosure. The recovered amount was taken into possession as per due procedure.
Further verification through ICJS and records of police stations across the Valley revealed that the accused had allegedly been involved in 14 previous theft-related cases, adding a wider criminal history to the ongoing investigation.
Police are now working to recover the remaining stolen cash and other property and establish the accused’s complete role in the case. Further investigation remains in progress.
