NEW DELHI, SEPT 27: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has flagged social media posts circulating a video claiming to show a live protest against Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Chief Election Commissioner at Jantar Mantar as false and misleading.
According to PIB Fact Check, the video being shared on social media is old footage from January 2024 and is being circulated with a misleading context to make it appear as a recent development.
The clarification comes amid the circulation of the video across social media platforms, where posts have allegedly presented the old visuals as footage of a current protest.
PIB Fact Check has urged citizens to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing it online, particularly when content relates to sensitive public and electoral matters.
Authorities have also warned that legal action may be initiated against those involved in spreading misinformation, and advised social media users to exercise caution and avoid forwarding unverified claims.
The clarification underscores the importance of checking the date and original context of videos circulating online, particularly where old footage is presented as a current event.
