LEH, SEPT 28: The Traditional Archery Tournament, organised as part of the Ladakh Festival 2026, concluded at Shenam Gongma Ground, Leh, with archers from seven districts of Ladakh competing in the traditional sporting event.
The Sham District team emerged first with a total score of 132 points, while the Nubra District team secured second position with 114 points. The Changthang District team finished third with 84 points.
Individual honours also went to the leading performers of the tournament. Slanzin Chonjor of Sham District was adjudged the Top Archer, recording an impressive 71 points. Rinchen Namgail of Nubra District finished next with 64 points.
The tournament provided a vibrant platform for showcasing Ladakh’s traditional archery heritage, bringing together participants from different regions and highlighting the sporting skills and traditions that have been preserved across generations.
The concluding ceremony was attended by Sanjit Rodrigues, Administrative Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department, UT of Ladakh, and Tashi Dolma, Director, Tourism, UT of Ladakh.
Lobzang Angchuk, President, Ladakh Archery Association, along with members of the association, was also present during the event.
The successful conclusion of the tournament added another traditional sporting dimension to the Ladakh Festival 2026, celebrating the region’s indigenous sports and providing participants an opportunity to preserve and promote traditional archery among younger generations.
