BUDGAM, SEPT 29: Security forces neutralised one terrorist in a fierce exchange of gunfire after a joint operation was launched in the Korag area of Yousmarg in Budgam district on the basis of specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence.
The operation was launched jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF, which moved into the area after receiving intelligence regarding the possible presence of terrorists in the general vicinity of Korag.
As the troops advanced through the area while maintaining heightened vigilance, they detected suspicious movement. The suspected terrorists were challenged, following which they opened fire on the security forces, triggering an intense gun battle.
The security forces retaliated, resulting in the neutralisation of one terrorist during the ensuing exchange of fire.
Following the contact, the joint forces immediately tightened the cordon and intensified searches across the area to prevent any possible escape and to ascertain whether other terrorists were present.
The operation remains underway, with troops systematically sanitising the surrounding terrain. Security forces are maintaining heightened alert while searches continue in the difficult terrain of the Yousmarg area.
Officials said the identity of the neutralised terrorist and details of any weapons, ammunition or other incriminating material recovered from the encounter site will be established after the operation and verification are completed.
The operation underscores the continued intelligence-based coordination between the Army, J&K Police and CRPF to track and neutralise terrorist threats in Budgam and prevent their movement through the hinterland.
With the search operation still underway, security forces remain deployed across the operational area and are carrying out a thorough sanitisation exercise to ensure that no further threat remains.
