The Wheelchair Cricket Association J&K, in collaboration with Government Degree College Baramulla, organised a wheelchair cricket match between wheelchair cricket teams representing Baramulla and Budgam at Government Degree College Baramulla.
The match, as per a statement, provided a valuable platform for wheelchair athletes to showcase their cricketing talent, determination and sporting abilities. The players displayed remarkable confidence, competitive spirit and dedication, proving that physical disability cannot come in the way of talent, passion and achievement.
A major highlight of the match was the outstanding batting performance of Sheikh Zaid from Sopore, who scored an impressive 110 runs not out off just 45 balls. His remarkable innings showcased the exceptional cricketing talent present among wheelchair athletes in Jammu & Kashmir.
The event was sponsored by Amin EV Hubs, Waripora, Kunzer, Gulmarg Road, Magam, whose valuable support contributed towards the successful organisation of the event.
At the conclusion of the match, the President of Wheelchair Cricket Association J&K expressed sincere gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, the Principal of Government Degree College Baramulla, and all other individuals and institutions who extended their support and cooperation for the event.
While speaking to media persons, the President highlighted the major challenges being faced by wheelchair cricketers in Jammu & Kashmir, particularly the shortage of proper sports wheelchairs and team uniforms. He said that although the region has talented wheelchair athletes, the lack of appropriate sporting equipment and resources often restricts their ability to train and participate effectively at higher levels.
He appealed to the Government, public representatives, corporate houses, institutions and other stakeholders to come forward and support wheelchair cricket by providing sports wheelchairs, uniforms, training facilities, transportation and other necessary sporting infrastructure.
The President further stated that with adequate support and opportunities, wheelchair cricketers from Jammu & Kashmir can represent the region with pride at national and international platforms and bring recognition to Jammu & Kashmir through their sporting achievements.
The Association reiterated its commitment to promoting inclusive sports, equal opportunities and dignity for persons with disabilities, while creating platforms where talented wheelchair athletes can demonstrate their abilities.
