SOPORE, SEPT 15: Taking its community-policing campaign deeper into schools and local communities, Sopore Police conducted a series of awareness programmes and community interaction meetings across the police district, focusing on women’s safety, legal awareness, drug abuse and stronger police-public coordination.
An awareness programme on the elimination of gender-based violence was organised at Government Girls High School, Sher Colony, in collaboration with Sakhi One Stop Centre, Baramulla. Students and local residents were sensitised about different forms of gender-based violence, its impact on women and children, and the legal remedies and support mechanisms available to victims.
At Police Station Panzalla, a Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meeting brought police officials and prominent citizens together to discuss issues concerning policing and civil administration.
Police assured participants that genuine police-related grievances would receive priority attention, while matters falling under other departments would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
The community interaction also placed a strong focus on the growing threat of drug abuse and trafficking, with participants urged to work closely with police and share information to help prevent the spread of narcotics in their localities.
Meanwhile, awareness programmes on the New Criminal Laws were conducted at Government High School Zaloora and Government Boys Higher Secondary School Chatoosa. Students and participants were briefed about the key provisions and citizen-centric features of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
The outreach drive underlines Sopore Police’s emphasis on people-centric policing, legal literacy and community participation, with the police seeking to build stronger partnerships with citizens in tackling social and security challenges.
Sopore Police said such awareness and interaction programmes will continue across the district with the objective of building a safer, better-informed and drug-free society while further strengthening trust between police and the public.
