KATHUA, SEPT 15: Kathua is set to get a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre for drug addicts, with several organisations working across India in the fight against drug addiction expected to extend support to the facility, SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma announced during a Police-Public Meet on Tuesday.
The proposed centre will become an important component of Kathua Police’s expanding anti-drug campaign, providing a dedicated platform for rehabilitation and support to people struggling with substance addiction.
SSP Mohita Sharma said organisations involved in combating drug addiction across the country would assist Kathua District Police in running activities at the centre. The facility will also host various anti-drug initiatives already being undertaken by the district police, particularly sports-based programmes aimed at engaging youth in healthy and constructive activities.
The announcement was made during a Police-Public Meet organised at the District Police Lines, Kathua, where the SSP interacted with members of the public and discussed issues concerning drug abuse and community safety.
The meeting was attended by ASP Kathua Sunil Kesar, DSP Bhagwan Dass Dandia and SHO Kathua Rajeshwar Salathia, among other officials.
The proposed rehabilitation centre is expected to strengthen the district’s response to drug addiction by combining rehabilitation efforts with awareness, community participation and youth engagement.
The initiative signals a broader shift towards tackling drug abuse not only through enforcement but also through rehabilitation, prevention and sustained community-based intervention, with sports and positive youth engagement forming a key part of the district police’s anti-drug strategy.
