ZANSKAR, SEPT 15: Livestock services in Zanskar received a major administrative boost with the establishment of a dedicated District Sheep Husbandry Officer’s office, inaugurated on Tuesday by Director Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain.
Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, accompanied by DSHO Leh Dr. Tundup Namgyal, visited Zanskar and formally inaugurated the newly established office. He inspected the facility and interacted with officers and staff to review departmental functioning and ongoing livestock development programmes in the district.
Dr. Asif Hussain, DSHO Zanskar, briefed the Director on the functioning of the new office and various activities being undertaken for livestock development in the region.
The Director also welcomed Dr. Nasir Hussain, the newly posted Livestock Development Officer (LDO), Zanskar, and wished him success in his new assignment.
During detailed discussions, Dr. Iftikhar reviewed livestock development activities, sought field-level feedback and discussed issues affecting livestock owners. He directed officers to maintain close and regular contact with livestock farmers and provide timely veterinary and livestock services.
Stress was also laid on effective implementation of departmental schemes and programmes, with the Director emphasising that government benefits must reach livestock owners at the grassroots level.
The Director appreciated the efforts of officers and staff and called for sustained field engagement and improved service delivery to strengthen the livestock sector in the remote region.
The visit concluded with directions to the department to continue working towards the welfare of livestock owners and further strengthening veterinary and livestock services across Zanskar.
